Brent Knox-Holmes, Director of BK-H Technology Services Ltd., has worked in marine biofouling and antifouling since 1987 when his PhD in marine zoology gave rise to a patent and the formation of the University of Sheffield spin-out company called BFCC Ltd. The BFCC synergistic copper-chlorine antibiofouling system is still sold today.


As well as BFCC, he has designed electrochlorinators and other water treatment equipment including novel strainers and catalytic deoxygenation equipment. He has undertaken offshore survey and troubleshooting work to support root cause analyses and assess the efficiency of copper and hypochlorite generating equipment.


Brent has undertaken field trials of antibiofouling coatings for subsea structures and performance evaluations of seawater injection systems.

Failure Analysis

Understanding the causes of biofouling and any associated biodeterioration is key to preventing future problems.  BK-H Technology Services can undertake root cause analysis of available data and recommend appropriate changes to operating  and monitoring instrumentation and procedures. 

Training & Education

Tailored training is available on :


· Biofouling mechanisms and how they impact industrial processes (friction, heat transfer, corrosion etc.).


· Antibiofouling options (chemicals, generation and dosing equipment, coatings)
